Welcome to a non-judgmental and safe place to explore your life challenges. I am a Registered Nurse and a Registered Psychotherapy (Qualifying). I use an holistic and client-centered approach, incorporating the mind, body and spirit elements of overall health and wellbeing.
As a Registered Nurse with 20 years of experience and chronic pain, I understand how living with long-term illness and/or pain can lead to feeling anxiety, sadness, hopelessness and anger.
I can help you understand that chronic illnesses/pain have biological, psychological and emotional factors that need to addressed. Understanding and managing the thoughts, emotions and behaviors that exist with the illness/pain can help you cope more effectively.
I work with people who are neurodivergent including those with ADHD and Autism (Level 1). As a neurodivergent person myself (ADHD) with neurodivergent children, I understand your frustrations and challenges.
People with Autism can benefit from psychotherapy because of the high incidence of having co-current psychological conditions like anxiety, depression, ADHD, learning problems, OCD and having deficits in language, social skills and executive functioning.
What is Executive Functioning?
Executive function refers to mental processes (executive functioning skills) that help you set and carry out goals to solve problems, make plans and manage emotions. There are 8 areas of executive functioning:
1. Task initiation and Switching
2. Organizing, Planning, Prioritizing and Decision-Making
3. Working Memory
4. Attention and Focus
5. Tracking and Managing Time
6. Impulse Control
7. Self-Monitoring
8. Mental Flexibility
Do some of these resonate with you? Do you struggle with any of the following?
* Feeling uncomfortable and irritated when you need to stop what you are doing
* Having trouble planning, prioritizing and deciding what to do first
* Forgetting things or tasks if you do not do them straight away
* Having trouble focusing on what people are saying if there are other noises around you
* Having trouble with being on time for appointments or social events
* Doing things without considering the long-term impacts
* Speaking at the wrong time in a conversation or speaking too loud or too quiet
I work with parents of both neurotypical and neurodivergent children. Once again, as a Registered Nurse with 20 years experience and mother of 2 special needs children (Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, OCD and learning disability), I understand your frustrations, challenges, hopes and fears.
I can help you understand what neurodivergence means, what does it look like and how you can help your children and yourself understand the feelings and emotions that come with living in a neurodivergent world.
