What is Patient Advocacy?
Overall, patient advocacy services are designed to help speak up for your rights, interests and preferences within the healthcare system. Healthcare advocacy can include treatment support, social services and assistance in navigating a complex healthcare system.
As a Registered Nurse with over 20 years experience, I can help as a guide within our healthcare system. The cornerstone of a Nurse Advocate is patient education. My role can include reaching out to community resources as needed, educating clients about diagnoses, helping you advocate for treatments/procedures/tests that are appropriate for patient care, demonstrating compassion and empathy while acting as your voice when you feel lost within the healthcare system.
Specifically, I can provide emotional support to the community, listening to your concerns and help you build on your strengths and supporting the development of your own advocacy skills. I also help you navigate the healthcare system by locating appropriate community resources, help you fill out government forms correctly and advocating for you at the school or workplace.
